The dreams of many ‘unsigned’ Christian musicians is to get ‘discovered’, move to Nashville, see their albums in ‘our’ bookstores, tour ‘our’ festivals and youth sanctuaries, live full time of their album sales and perhaps win a Dove or Stellar Award.

As C.S. Lewis said, our dreams are not too strong, but too weak. The dream described above is not ‘bad’ – in fact we are blessed by the ministry of many who are living this life now. There is nothing wrong with any of the above – if that is what God would have for you.

The question we need to ask ourselves as we sense God’s calling upon us to use our musical gifts is “What does God want to do, what does He want said, and what role does He want us to play?” Our job is to yield to Him, decrease and passionately pursue His vision and dreams.

I am sure He dreams of Nashville and Nicaragua; He yearns for the rich and poor, the readers of Billboard and CCM magazines, monasteries and malls. “The earth is the Lord’s and the fullness thereof…” What He seeks are worshippers, people willing to yield to Him and His presence – till we are mistaken for Jesus. God wants to be on a stage in front of tens of thousands, He wants to be on TV, He wants to be on the mission field, He wants to be on street corners and cafes, in high and honourable places – but He will not share his glory with another.

"...He opens doors for Himself in us, He provides platforms for Himself in us..."

I believe He opens doors for himself in us, He provides platforms for Himself in us – and when He is living unhindered in the hearts & minds of available people, He will take Himself where He wishes. Availability, not talent is the criteria. He supplies the gift, the contacts, the opportunity, the message, and wants to the glory – all of it.

“We have the privilege of getting to see God do mighty exploits – up close - through us” as Louie Giglio once said, describing how the Passion movement came about. We do nothing but
daily lay down our lives and live in his direction.

I heard of a worship leader in Zimbabwe, who at one point couldn’t sing in tune at all, but by giving Himself over to the Lord, was given a gift (woke up one day and could sing) so incredible, people marvel at his ability, talent and authority as He leads.

God is the source, and grace provides everything we need for life and godliness. When’s the last time you prayed for the tools to accomplish His vision? “Lord, please give me such skill on my instrument that your all surpassing excellence is shown as I sing of your glory.” The problem is often not what we pray for but why. Being called by God to use your gift is really being called to God and letting Him use His music through Him.

If the Creator is the source of our music, our music should be the standard, the most cutting edge, the trend setter, the light in the darkness. Often all the world hears from us is us – the form of godliness but devoid of the power thereof. But a generation is rising, whose dreams surpass collecting lifeless Grammy, Dove & Stellar awards, whose consuming passion is the glory of God and the supremacy of God in all things all over the globe.

Not just “one day in Heaven’ stuff, but here in the land of the living we shall see the goodness of God. Musicians who bear the glory and light of God from New York to New Delhi, from stadiums to street corners – with no thought to their own notoriety or appearance of success. People who know Who deserves the glory, who know how to direct the praise when its wrongly splashed on them – who long to see miracles not just screaming fans, who pray for revival over revenue. This is the generation of those who seek Thee, who seek Your face.

Are you called to music? What is God’s vision for you? What is your purpose? Are you daily finding ways of letting Him have more of you? Are you investing in the gifts He has given you? Are you passionately pursuing what He has called you to do – in spite of logic, current circumstances and what others may say? Do you believe that all things are possible?

We do and so do many others like you.  Called2Music.com exists to help you accomplish what God is purposing to do through you.
