The word on the street is that some musicians and bands believe that MySpace music is a sell-out for musicians but that is nothing further from the truth. All over forums and chat rooms people are complaining about musicians selling-out by joining MySpace.
Honestly, if there is an easier avenue to your goals, my question is, why not take it? Why should you spend hours sweating and slaving over work that can simply be accomplished or minimized by creating one simple page online? That’s just it, you shouldn’t. MySpace music isn’t complex and it isn’t just for teenagers, everyone uses it!
MySpace for bands is a simple and effective route to take if you are looking to reduce the blood, sweat and tears of marketing your band or music to the outside world. Seriously, MySpace music reaches tens of millions of people and that is a fact! How does that constitute you selling out as a musician? In my opinion, it does not. So, what constitutes MySpace for musicians as a sell-out? A sell-out to what? What does that
mean? Are you selling-out by taking short cuts or by conforming to society’s new norm? MySpace allows users to market themselves like never before and all for FREE!
If you are skeptical about MySpace music, then explore the success stories and then form your own opinions. Using MySpace for bands and musicians, cuts out hundreds of man hours that would have been spent on proving to the public that your music is worthwhile. Walking into every club on the street, passing out flyers, begging people to attend your shows are all tasks that have been cut in half through the use of MySpace for musicians.
Now you have a reference and a place to gather fans, hear their opinions, whether constructive or not, and keep in touch with your audience. If you are still skeptical about exploring MySpace for bands or musicians, then check it out on your own. Put up a page, set your music up, add some friends and see what kind of response you get. What’s the old saying? Don’t knock something until you try it for yourself...It could possibly be one of the best things, in relation to publicity, you could ever do for your band or career, hands down.

MySpace pumps pornography into the home page of every member. Their login screens are filled with pornographic advertising. Mbr pages are littered with nudity, sexually explicit, violent and satanic graphics and videos. Please reread your own words - they are exactly what people use as excuses to justify taking the easy road...you actually advocate taking the easy road. You ask..."What is a sellout?" Providing pornography to children in the form of advertising, videos and music is selling out to Evil. You have a passion for equipping musicians with the tools to promote faith -so put it into action - don't help push people into the near occasion of sin by telling them MySpace is harmless...it is not. Start a Christian Musicians Collaboration Meet-Up, monthly in every city. Promote MySpace alternatives like Xianz.com - musicians can get a FREE MP3 player for their websites - easy as pie. Write an article ASKING PEOPLE WHAT THEY WOULD DO TO FIX MYSPACE and then just see what people think "selling out" is. You could then turn called2music into the next best Christian Myspace Alternative for musicians. Just try to remember, the road to destruction is easy and wide. The road to salvation is hard fought. FIGHT HARDER MAN!

Great points. Thats very true - and true of alot of social sites. We shouldn't accept the status quo... yet I, and many others, just carry on with life as usual.
But I don't know if we push people to the near occasion of sin by telling them of options out there, it would be nice to have a purely Christian site... it would be nice to have a purely Christian world - and one day we will. So the battle continues... warning to all: watch what you do - know what your weaknesses are - and avoid them... Feel free to point people to some christian alternatives for musicians online... |
